Baptism
Baptism marks the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith and initiation into the Catholic community. Preparation sessions are offered for parents and godparents to ensure they fully understand the significance of this sacred sacrament.
Holy Communion
The Sacrament of Holy Communion celebrates unity with Christ and the Church. Children typically receive their First Holy Communion after completing a preparation program that includes catechesis, prayer, and reflection, culminating in a joyful celebration during a special Mass.
Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens the baptized individual’s bond with the Church and equips them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Preparation involves classes and retreats to deepen faith and understanding, culminating in a celebration where candidates are sealed with the gift of the Spirit.
Marriage
The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant of love reflecting Christ’s bond with the Church. Couples are encouraged to begin preparation well in advance, ensuring their union is built on faith and mutual commitment, with guidance provided every step of the way.
Confession
The Sacrament of Reconciliation invites individuals to seek forgiveness and restore their relationship with God and the Church. Confessions are available regularly before Masses, offering a path to spiritual renewal and peace. Special penitential services are also held during Advent and Lent.
Anointing of the Sick
This sacrament offers spiritual and physical healing to those who are ill or facing serious challenges. It is a reminder of Christ’s compassion and presence, providing comfort, peace, and courage to those in need. Requests for this sacrament can be made through the parish office.

Our History

In the early 1920s Welling was very much a country village. To the north of Bellegrove Road were fields and heathland, and to the south were some orchards.

There were very few Catholics living in Welling, and those who did would walk to St. Benet's Church in Abbey Wood to attend Mass. House-building began in a modest way at this time due an acute shortage of housing following the 1914-18 war. The parish priest of St. Patrick's, Plumstead, Rev. Daniel McCarthy, could foresee the development of house building and brought this fact to the attention of Bishop Amigo. The bishop instructed Fr. McCarthy to negotiate the purchase of a site and build a church. The site chosen was between Welling Corner and where Novo Gym stands today (formerly, for many years, Woolworths). At the time, this area was not built upon, but opposite there was a row of houses and a single building which housed a small library. There was also a drinking fountain and a small hall behind it which was a non-conformist church.
